HURRICANE HELENE CAME THROUGH OUR AREA OF DOWNTOWN MARSHALL ON THE EVENING OF SEPTEMBER 27. THE NEXT MORNING, OUR BEAUTIFUL LITTLE TOWN FLOODED. THE RIVER ROSE 27 FEET AND TOOK EVERYTHING WITH IT. WE ARE LUCKY TO ONLY HAVE LOST A BUSINESS. VERY LUCKY.
THIS IS OUR HOME, THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY AND WE ARE STAYING. WHAT WILL THIS LOOK LIKE? WE DON’T KNOW. WE HONESTLY DON’T. WE ARE FIGURING THINGS OUT DAY BY DAY. WE’RE HOPING TO GET TOGETHER SOME SORT OF WEEKEND POP UP FOR COFFEE, TREATS AND CYCLING SUPPORT WHEN IT’S SAFE TO GO BACK. WE’RE GOING TO ADD SOME ONLINE RETAIL (WHICH WOULD BE SO MUCH EASIER IF I ONLY KNEW WHAT I WAS DOING.) WHEN WE ARE FURTHER ALONG, WE WILL SELL GIFT CERTIFICATES IN ADVANCE OF OUR REOPENING. WE ARE WORKING ON T-SHIRTS…UMMM… YEAH - THAT’S ABOUT WHERE WE ARE. IF YOU HAVE ANY GOOD IDEAS - LET ME KNOW ALEX@OYB-NC.COM
HOW TO HELP?
WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM OUR BRAND PARTNERS. OUR GOFUNDME LINK IS HERE. SHARING IS WONDERFUL. FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA, AND PLEASE COMMENT, LIKE AND SHARE POSTS. WE WILL SHARE UPDATES THERE OF OUR CLEAN UP AND PROGRESS.
WHY WE’RE NEEDED
WE ARE (ARE…WERE…WHATEVS) THE ONLY BIKE STORE WITHIN A 20 MILE RADIUS IN AN AREA THAT’S A CYCLING DESTINATION. WE ARE A VALUABLE THIRD SPACE FOR OUR COMMUNITY. WE ARE A PLACE TO WORK WITH A BOTTOMLESS $2 CUP OF METHODICAL COFFEE AND IN-HOUSE BAKED TREATS. WE PROVIDE JOBS IN DOWNTOWN MARSHALL. AND GOSH-DARNIT… WE’RE NICE, AND PEOPLE LIKE US. AND WHO ELSE IS GOING TO GIVE BISCUITS TO ALL THOSE DOGS?
WHY WE NEED YOU
WE ARE MISSING OUR CAFE LIKE MISSING A DEAR FRIEND. THE BUZZ OF PEOPLE ON A SUNDAY MORNING IS MY VERY FAVORITE SOUND. THE BARISTAS LOVED HAVING CYCLISTS COME IN WITH THE RUSH OF PULLING ALL THOSE DOUBLE SHOTS AND PASTRIES. WE MISS SEEING OUR REGULARS. WE MISS PETTING THOSE DOGS. WE MISS ALL THIS - BUT MOSTLY, WE MISS OUR TOWN AND WANT TO SEE IT COME BACK TO LIFE. WE ARE DETERMINED TO REBUILD AND BE A PART OF THAT RECOVERY.

Updates!!
Nov. 17 - we’ve started framing! The electrician is coming this week. The coffee bar is getting framed out next. Drywall is about 2 weeks out. We’ve put a downpayment on all kinds of refrigeration, and looking everywhere for a second hand commercial dishwasher. And thanks to the generosity of Rising tide we got a screaming deal on a beautiful new Chesterfield.

We cannot wait
We are itching to get back to work fixing bikes, and supporting your ride. We’ve sadly come to the conclusion that we will not be able to restock bikes for sale with our rebuild budget. We are facing a triple whammy from losing all our kitchen and coffee equipment and our new bikes. We can still custom order and work with you to get you on the right ride, but our bike supply is going to have to rebuild organically over time :(

Check out our new Merch section
We’re selling a few bits and bobs online to help support over come back. Every little bit helps us keep our staff intact, and provide some bit of income for rebuilding.
Check it out.
Christmas is coming.

We don’t have an opening date, but as we get closer we’ll be posting the countdown here. Any opportunity for a pop up will be announced on our socials. We’re chomping at the bit to get re-opened.
Our Staff

Beverage czar
You’ll find Madeleine here every day slinging coffee and keeping the place running. She is behind the creative drink specials, the genius smoothies and she keeps the coffee coming.

monkey wrench
Adam has loved bikes his entire life, and has subsequently raced, wrecked and rebuild quite a lot of them. We find him kind, patient and encyclopedic. Bikes are the only thing that could have tempted him off his beloved mountain ridge. Bike pro? You can trust him with your high end bike. Novice? He can help guide you into the right ride. If the zombie apocalypse goes down, you want him on your team. He’s that guy.

Chief bottle washer/glue
She painted the walls, did the logo design and does all the cooking. She got stuck doing the website, and boy who’s laughing now?

The Fixer
If you’ve been by on a sunday, you might have noticed a new face behind the counter. Meet Rowan. When things get busy and we need a anothe pair of hands - they’re here to help.
-
lead baker
Logan runs a goat farm, has arms that could put Terminator 2 era Linda Hamilton to shame and can get more done by 9 than most marines do all day. She's a cornerstone of this operation.

the professional
Lee joins our team as an experienced barista. you'll know them by the beautiful latte art and the effortlessly cool attire
How it started
A bike tech, a barista and an illustrator walk into an empty building…
And thus began our family journey to open the doors of On your bike, and pool together all of our various skills. it’s a wide range of hats we wear - a cook, a baker, two welders, a muralist, a mechanic and a screen printer. We wanted to dig in and make a place with our own two hands. And we did. From hanging drywall to cutting the vinyl on the windows. Just ask and we’d be happy to tell you about it. (Except how we got the vintage cb450 on the platform. If you can guess, step by step, how that was done, you win free coffee for a month. SRSLY.)
Adam’s been in marshall for 10 years, Madeleine and alex got blown here from new orleans by katrina 18 years ago (M was 2!) and thanks to funding through the SBA and mountain biz works We got the opportunity to be a part of our downtown community. We’re so glad to be here.
here to support your weekend rides.
Maybe your wheel is wobbling, or maybe your shifter isn’t shifting. Maybe you’re just thirsty or forgot some sunscreen. We’ve got a great place here for you to sit in the ac (or in the heat depending on the time of year) and enjoy a frosty cold drink or smoothie (or a nice hot coffee - you know - depending on the time of the year.) It’s a good spot to recoup with friends at the end of a ride, or to take a breather before you turn around and head back down old marshall highway on the bakery ride. or Maybe it’s simply a place to go on a day when bikes aren’t even on the radar.
